Worried about business cash flow? Doing more might be costing you money

4 min read

If you’ve spent most of August worrying about business cash flow, please don’t make September the month you try to fix it by doing MORE.

Because that panic is about to leak into your energy, power and money.

And it will cost you.

You might be telling yourself:

“I just need the kids back at school.” “I need to get back into a routine.” “I’ve got loads to catch up on.”

Maybe.

But September isn’t going to fix the belief that more work = more money.

And if that belief is still running the show, you’ll just have more hours available to exhaust yourself with.

So before you plan your big September comeback, I want you to catch the leak before you build a whole month around it.

Open your notes app. Get your journal. Voice note yourself while you walk the dog.

And answer these honestly:

✨Where am I planning to spend energy because I’m scared, rather than because I genuinely believe it will make me money?

Look at what you’re planning for September.

The posting. The new offer. The emails. The networking.

The “I really should…” list.

If you knew money was coming, would you still choose all of it?

Now ask yourself:

✨What would I stop doing if I stopped using how busy I am as evidence that I’m doing enough?

Because sometimes we don’t need more capacity.

We need to stop spending the capacity we already have proving that we deserve the result.

Your energy is a business resource. Start treating it like one.

Next:

✨Where have I already known what I want to do, but I’m still looking for permission, reassurance or more evidence before I do it?

The price you want to charge. The offer you want to sell. The person you want to contact. The thing you want to say. The decision you keep overthinking.

Every time you hand a business decision you already know back to doubt, you hand some of your power with it.

So try this instead:

✨If I trusted myself completely, what would already be decided?

There is an enormous difference between needing more information and being frightened to back yourself.

Learn which one you’re doing.

And this is something I practise myself, especially when I’m considering an investment in my business, whether that's an investment of my time, money or energy.

Because investments can be scary.

Sometimes my instinct says HELL YES before my brain has finished listing all the reasons I should be sensible.

So when that happens, I ask myself three questions:

✨1. Will I commit to getting a return on this investment?

Not: Can this guarantee me a return?

Will I do the work? Will I use what I’m buying? Will I implement what I learn?

Will I take responsibility for turning this investment into something valuable?

✨2. Will the return compound over time?

Will the knowledge I learn still help me a year from now?

Will the relationship, experience, skill or decision create opportunities beyond the immediate return?

✨3. What does Millionaire Claire say? AKA my future self...

Does this investment move me closer to her?

Would she tell me this is a distraction? Or would she be screaming, YES.

These questions don't remove my fear, they help me work out whether the fear is actually telling me no...or whether my instinct has already said HELL YES and the fear has simply arrived after I have already decided.

Because the safest part of an investment isn't always the investment itself.

It's how safe I feel backing myself to make something of it.

Which brings me to...

✨ What am I about to do because I want money QUICKLY that I wouldn’t choose if I was thinking about the next 12 months?

Discount something? Create another offer? Drop your price? Abandon something too soon?

Cash-flow fear makes expensive business decisions look sensible.

So finally, ask yourself:

✨What if the answer to making more money in your business this September isn’t doing more?

What if it’s:

  • Making quicker decisions.

  • Backing what you’ve already built.

  • Following up without hesitation.

  • Selling again. And again...

  • Resting before you decide.

  • Keeping your price.

  • Staying visible when you want to disappear.

  • Letting something compound instead of constantly replacing it.

✨What would September look like then?

You do not need to spend September making up for August.

You don't need to earn your way back into feeling like a successful business owner.

Catch the leak first. Then decide what September actually needs from you.

Your business probably doesn’t need more of you.

It needs more of you with your energy, power and money intact.

This is the work I do as a business and money coach with my clients all the time, because the thing costing you money often isn't that you don't know what to do.

It's what happens inside you before you do it.

The doubt. The urgency. The overthinking. The decisions you make when you're worried about money.

And if you're reading this thinking, Claire, I need you in my head when I'm making these decisions...

That's exactly why I created The Woman Who Wins.

It's £22 and full of the actual tools I use to help women in business catch their energy, power and money leaks, make cleaner decisions and start operating as the woman who backs herself BEFORE all the evidence arrives.

And perhaps run those three investment questions on this one too.

Will you commit to getting a return from the £22?

Could what you learn compound long after you've finished it?

And what does your future self say?

If she says hell yes, you know what to do.
